The Characteristics of Natural Stone

Our collection features a variety of exquisite stones, each with its own distinct character:

Granite

Revered for its remarkable durability and captivating, granular patterns, granite brings both strength and distinction. Formed from molten magma that slowly cools and solidifies beneath the earth’s surface, granite is an igneous rock rich in natural minerals, lending it an incredible spectrum of colors and intricate textures. From deep blacks and vibrant blues to warm beiges and pristine whites, this diversity allows every slab of granite to showcase a one-of-a-kind design. Granite’s resistance to heat, scratches, and daily wear makes it as practical as it is beautiful.

Marble

This remarkable stone is formed deep within the earth through the process of metamorphism, where intense heat and pressure transform limestone into marble over thousands of years. The beautiful veining and striking color variations are naturally created by mineral impurities that flow and settle throughout the stone during its transformation. Each slab is a unique work of art, offering exceptional longevity and exuding an air of timeless sophistication that is truly unmatched.

Quartzite

Originating as pure sandstone, quartzite forms through intense heat and pressure deep within the earth, which fuses quartz grains together into a solid, crystalline stone. This natural transformation creates a surface renowned for its dazzling crystalline sparkle and subtle, elegant veining, often resembling marble’s refined aesthetic. Quartzite’s impressive resilience makes it exceptionally durable, ideal for surfaces that require both lasting performance and breathtaking beauty.

Durability

Granite, marble, and quartzite are all renowned for their durability, but each offers unique strengths. Granite is incredibly tough, resistant to scratches, and perfect for high-traffic areas. Marble, while softer, is still remarkably durable when properly cared for, making it a timeless choice for elegant spaces. Quartzite, formed from sandstone under intense heat and pressure, is one of the hardest natural stones, combining beauty with exceptional resilience.

Temperature Regulation

Natural stones like granite, marble, and quartzite have excellent thermal properties. Marble, in particular, stays naturally cool, making it ideal for bathroom vanities. Granite and quartzite also maintain a stable temperature, offering practical benefits like heat resistance and comfort in warmer climates. These properties make natural stone both functional and luxurious.

Unique Veining

The natural veining in granite, marble, and quartzite makes each slab a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Granite often features speckled patterns and bold mineral flecks, while marble is celebrated for its dramatic swirls and flowing veins. Quartzite offers subtle, marble-like veining with a more understated elegance, making it a versatile choice for both modern and classic designs.

Craftsmanship and Fabrication

Understanding the craftsmanship required for granite, marble, and quartzite is essential for those working with these materials. Granite, being extremely hard, requires specialized tools for cutting and shaping but offers excellent precision and durability once fabricated. Marble, being softer, is easier to cut and carve, making it a favorite for intricate designs and custom details. Quartzite, while harder than granite, can be more challenging to work with due to its density and brittleness, requiring skilled expertise. Knowing the unique fabrication needs of each stone ensures a smoother installation process and optimal results. Design styles, from traditional to contemporary. Its timeless elegance makes it a popular choice in high-end design, contributing to a sense of opulence and grandeur.

Understanding Natural Stone Variations

Natural stone is celebrated for its unique variations, which add character and depth. These natural differences allow for various aesthetic choices. Understanding the stone’s variation levels is essential for specifying the desired look and feel and ensuring that your design vision is perfectly realized. Each level of variation offers distinct opportunities to create a cohesive and captivating environment tailored to your project’s needs.

Low Variation

Low variation offers consistent color and pattern, making it a versatile canvas. Subtle shifts in tone may occur, but overall, the stone maintains a uniform appearance. This is ideal for a clean, minimalist look, providing a serene and cohesive aesthetic. Its versatility offers design control.

Medium Variation

Medium variation strikes a balance with its blend of color and pattern, offering more character than low-variation options. You will notice a wider range of variation between slabs, such as occasional veining and differing hues, while still maintaining a generally harmonious look. Because of this broader variation, it is important to discuss your preferences and expectations with our team, ensuring your project results in the desired consistency and overall appearance.

High Variation

High variation stones feature bold colors and dramatic patterns, resulting in dynamic and eye-catching surfaces where each slab can differ significantly from the next. The range of variation here is even greater than medium, so you can expect striking differences in appearance from slab to slab. With high variation, it is essential to partner closely with our team to review and set standards, ensuring that the unique beauty of each piece still comes together for a cohesive project look.

Honed (MATTE)

This finish provides a soft, subtle texture that is smooth to the touch. It offers a more understated and contemporary look, perfect for creating a modern and sophisticated aesthetic.

Polished

This finish offers a glossy and reflective surface. It is smooth to the touch and enhances the beauty of the material.

Two key elements in caring for natural stone are cleaning and sealing. Following these steps is key to the longevity of your natural stone surfaces.

Cleaning

natural stone countertops require maintenance and regular cleaning to remain beautiful and functional. Clean the surface regularly with stone soap, natural cleanser, or mild dishwashing liquid. Gently wipe your countertops with a soft cloth, then rinse and dry thoroughly to prevent staining. Never use abrasive cleaners or scrubby sponges and avoid acidic cleaners. Here are a few tips for caring for your countertops.

Sealing

Most natural stones are porous and readily absorb liquids and moisture. Applying sealer will help prevent staining in most situations. Countertops should be sealed each year to prevent them from becoming porous and staining. Remember that no sealer will make your countertops ‘stain-proof, ‘ but these products can make them more stain-resistant.

Always follow the instructions outlined on the selected sealer. Take safety precautions, including wearing goggles, masks, and gloves. Many sealers need time to cure before you can use your countertops or get them wet, so observe the guidelines provided. A heavy-duty sealer may be required for the best results for marble.
