Substrates

HOSPITALITY VANITIES

The Foundation of Quality: Understanding Substrates

Substrates form the backbone of any veneered, finished, or metal surface, providing the strength, stability, and durability needed for long-lasting performance. Three key substrates we use are plywoodMDF (medium-density fiberboard), and stainless steel, each offering unique benefits depending on the application.

Plywood is prized for its strength and resistance to warping, making it ideal for structural applications and projects requiring durability. MDF, with its dense and uniform composition, is perfect for intricate detailing, precision machining, and applications where a smooth, consistent surface is essential. Stainless steel, on the other hand, offers unmatched durability, corrosion resistance, and a sleek, modern aesthetic, making it an excellent choice for high-moisture environments. Selecting the right substrate ensures the perfect balance of functionality, aesthetics, and longevity for your project.

Plywood:

The Strength of Marine-Grade Excellence

We exclusively use marine-grade plywood for our vanities, ensuring the highest quality and durability. What sets marine-grade plywood apart is its construction: it is made with waterproof adhesive and high-quality veneers that are free from voids, ensuring superior resistance to moisture, warping, and delamination. This makes it the ideal choice for bathroom environments where humidity and water exposure are common concerns.

Benefits of Marine-Grade Plywood
Exceptional resistance to moisture and humidity.
Superior strength and stability, even in challenging conditions.
Long-lasting performance, reducing the need for replacements.

Below is a chart outlining the different thicknesses we use, ranging from lightweight options to heavy-duty choices, to suit a variety of applications.

Type
# of Layers
Thickness
Best Use
5-Ply
5
~1/4 inch (6 mm)
Lightweight applications or smaller components where reduced weight is key.
7-Ply
7
~1/2 inch (12 mm)
Standard option for most vanities, offering a balance of strength and weight.
9-Ply
9
~3/4 inch (18 mm)
Heavy-duty applications requiring superior strength and stability.
11-Ply
11
~1 inch (25 mm)
Large-scale vanities needing maximum durability.

MDF:

Precision and Versatility with Waterproof Durability

When the application calls for MDF, we exclusively use waterproof MDF to ensure it can withstand humid environments without swelling or losing strength. This specialized material is enhanced with moisture-resistant resins and adhesives during the manufacturing process, creating a dense, non-porous structure that effectively resists water absorption. This improved composition allows waterproof MDF to maintain its integrity even in high-humidity conditions, making it a dependable and durable choice for bathroom vanities.

Benefits of Waterproof MDF

Smooth, uniform surface for precision detailing and intricate designs.
Resistant to warping and swelling in humid conditions.
Cost-effective and versatile for a wide range of applications.

Waterproof MDF is available in a range of thicknesses to suit different applications, from standard vanities to heavy-duty designs. Below is a chart outlining the thickness options we use.

Thickness
Application
Details
¾-inch (19mm)
Standard Use
Perfect for most vanity applications, offering a balance of strength and workability.
1-inch (25mm)
Enhanced Durability
Best for larger or more intricate designs requiring additional support and durability.
1 ¼-inch (32mm)
Maximum Strength
Suitable for oversized vanities or projects requiring maximum strength and resistance to warping.

Stainless Steel:

The Ultimate Solution for Wet Environments

Stainless steel is our gold standard for vanities in wet or high-moisture environments, and for good reason. It offers unmatched durability and exceptional corrosion resistance. Its non-porous surface resists water damage, rust, and staining, making it the ideal material for bathrooms and other demanding environments where moisture is a constant challenge.

We use 304-grade stainless steel as our standard material due to its excellent resistance to corrosion and suitability for most applications. For even harsher environments, such as coastal areas or tropical hotels, we offer 316-grade stainless steel, which is enhanced with added molybdenum. This upgrade provides superior resistance to saltwater, chlorides, and extreme conditions, ensuring long-lasting performance and reliability even in the most challenging settings. By choosing stainless steel, we ensure that our vanities not only meet but exceed the demands of wet environments, delivering both functionality and timeless style.

Benefits of Stainless Steel

Corrosion-resistant, ensuring long-lasting performance in high-moisture environments.
Sleek, modern aesthetic that complements contemporary designs.
Easy to clean and maintain, making it ideal for hospitality environments.

Below, we’ve outlined the different stainless steel tubing options we use, including their gauge, thickness, and ideal applications.

Gauge
Thickness
Details
16-Gauge
0.0625 inches (1.6mm)
Durable and versatile, ideal for most hospitality vanity applications, offering excellent strength, corrosion resistance, and reliability.
14-Gauge
0.0781 inches (2.0 mm)
With added strength and rigidity, it’s perfect for larger vanities requiring extra durability.
12-Gauge
0.1046 inches (2.7 mm)
